Spotting?!

Hi girls. I need some help. My period is about 5 days late now, and yesterday night before I go to bed I wiped inside and the paper came out a little red. I thought that could be the beginning of my period so I cleaned up and put a pad on. Later on I had sex with my partner and it got a little messy but not bad. This morning I went to the bathroom expecting for a huge mess ( that's how it is with my periods) and there was nothing. I wiped inside and a little bit of dark blood came out. So I'm assuming this is spotting? I haven't taken a pregnancy test yet.
