Heat on breasts to relieve pain?

Hello! I was in the hospital for a spinal headache the past 12 hours. I have been trying to pump but unfortunately am still very engorged and swollen. Can I put heat on my breasts to release the milk easier and relieve the pain? Would ice be better? TIA

Heat will help your milk flow, turn a heating pad on a low setting and hold it on your breasts for a few minutes before pumping, then hook up and place the heating pad over you while you pump. It should help. Good luck momma

Oh poor thing. I had a spinal headache too. So  debilitating. Did you have a blood patch or wait it out?

Heat immediately before expressing or feeding, otherwise ice to reduce the swelling. And the most relieving is cabbage leaves! They work really well to reduce the pain in the mean time

Lansinoh make gel breast packs that can be frozen or warmed. I've started using them while pumping and it feels nice. Haven't had them long enough to see if they increase my flow though
