How often do they check for dilation during labor?

How often is the norm to be checked for dilation during labor in the hospital?  I assume they will stick their fingers up in there correct?

My cerividal was placed at 730p. I was checked once around 9. My water broke at 12a, I was checked then. And the nurse walked in and found me pushing (my body told me to) and checked me again and it was actually time to push hence the reason my body started for me.

Yeah, definitely keep it to minimum. It was way more uncomfortable during than when it was done in the prenatals. Maybe when you first come in and maybe again when you feel like you are close to pushing. You CAN decline it.

Yes, they will check with their fingers however you can say you don't want to be checked. It isn't necessary.

I think it was about every couple hrs then a bit more often as things started to really progress.
