My son will be 3 months old on the 12th, I just got my first period since I had him is it safe to use tampons now?

I haven't had sex since I had him but I have been cleared by the doctor. I just need advice because pads are starting to make my lady parts sore/ raw and I used tampons before I got pregnant. I bled for 8 weeks after giving birth. So ladies what do you think?

Doctor said no sex or tampons for the first 6 weeks, that went for all 3 of my kids, after the 6 week mark you are fine.
