Abnormal Pap?

Question

My OB did a pap smear at my first prenatal appointment. I just received a call that it came back with an atypical abnormal result. I was also treated for Bacterial Vaginosis at that visit as well. The doc doesn't seem concerned and wants to do another pap in a year. This is my first baby so of course I'm concerned, even if the doctor isn't. 
Has this happened to anyone else? What was the reason for the abnormal results???

They should be able to tell you why it was abnormal. Sometimes it's just an "atypical cell" which could mean anything.  Even a random cotton fiber or semen. Usually they test to see if you're positive or negative for HPV as well. If you test negative for HPV with your abnormal Pap smear doc usually isn't too concerned. That's what I was told. I got my first abnormal test result back last January after 14 years of normal results. I was negative for HPV so they said they'll just do a Pap smear after baby is here. I declined a Pap smear during pregnancy since I'd had one recently.
