Birth Control.. Time Before it is Effective?

I am currently taking birth control and the contraceptive is in the pill form. It is my first month on this pill or any form of birth control ever. Estarylla.. Has anyone heard of it? All that I need to know is how long I need to take it before it becomes effective? As long as I am taking it every day, around the same time, when can I expect to be protected and unable to be impregnated? When I am coveted my it, must I continue to use condoms as a backup form of protection, for the 'just in case'? Thank you for your help.
