Platelets low!?

Question

I have been in the hospital for high blood pressure since 7 and they just now came in and told me that because my platelets are low that they may keep me and induce me, depending on what the doctor decides. Has any one ever had this, can give me a piece of mind, I'm sort of freaking out. I'm 37 weeks.

I was 37 weeks and ended up having a section bc my platelets were super low. My son was born perfectly fine and didn't have to stay in the NICU at all! He was just a tad jaundiced! I wish you well! I'm sure everything will be great!

I had this at 36 weeks, it was HELLP syndrome and preeclampsia. I was induced and had a platelet transfusion. My daughter was born healthy and will be 7 in July.

You could have something called preeclampsia or even HELLP syndrome. It's manifested by high blood pressure, possible protein in urine, headache/seeing spots/blurred vision, and alterations in lab work (specifically lowered platelets, increases creatinine, increased liver labs, and coagulation labs are messed up). The danger with preeclampsia is risk of seizure and/or stroke. The only cure is delivery of baby/placenta - so that's why they'd induce you.

I was in the hospital for the same thing yesterday but I am only 31 weeks so we are going to try to repair my platelets before labor... They may induce you before they get even lower... If they get too low you will be unable to get an epidural and a c section becomes more dangerous because your blood won't clot well with a low platelet count. Best of luck to you!!
