I think it honestly depends on the parties involved. Only people secure in their identity can have a true open relationship. Insecurity stems from self and if self is not secure then you cannot create space for trust, communication, and connection. I think open relationships can work with great communication too and if all parties involved are able to express and talk about their emotions, wants, and needs in a healthy way then for sure this is possible.

As someone who was in an open relationship in the past (and a polyamorous one at the moment), it definitely depends on the people. Some people are totally down, some aren't. You just need to be good communicators and set down ground rules. The only reason my ex and I broke it off was that they were moving for school (across the world).
