Cosmetology school?

Long story short, i want to go to cosmetology school. My questions are, is the money enough to make a living? With my manager experience I can go anywhere and make 11-13 an hour which may not be much, but it is a decent amount for where I live. I'm a young woman and I've always wanted to do hair or skin care but I'm worried I may waste a lot of time and money to go to school and not even be able to make ends meet. It is a passion and as long as I love what I do, that's the important part...but my question of income and possibilities regarding income still remain. Anyone have any experience here? Also, I'm not sure which field would pay off more getting into, hair care or skin care? I have so many questions, I'd love to talk to someone who's been in this situation or has went to cosmetology school!

I graduated from cosmetology school I'm currently licensed and honestly you get back what you put into it. And by that I mean you have to promote yourself some people think they are gonna get out and bam have a bunch of clients but it doesn't work that way. Starting out is definitely rough but once you have a clientele the money is really good depending on where you live or if you work for commission or booth rent or even hourly and also where you live i live in a small town with so much competition it does have its down days but you definitely won't be paycheck to paycheck if you put time and effort into it. If it's what you love it won't feel like a job. From personal experience with the tuition and money that goes into it to start it was pretty expensive for me I have $13000 in student loans the test it's self was 250 out of pocket and 50 for the license. Something that you should also keep in mind is if your gonna stay in your state where you get licensed some states do transfer licenses and other states require more hours or they make you take state board again that's something to look into before going into this perfesion. I personally enjoy being a cosmetologists. Good luck on whatever you decide 😆

With my esthetician license I can go many places. Waxing centers, lash centers, be a MUA, work in a spa, and I can also enter my way into med spas, and medical centers that do lip injections & even dermatology offices and other medical offices. I can't DO the surgeries of course, but I can assist in smaller ways. I also want to get my tattoo license to do cosmetic tattooing for cancer patients or anyone who would want tattooing/microblading. Everyone always focuses on cosmetology life, but the esthi life has way more options available and everyone assumes you'll just wax butt holes all day-- which also makes a lot of money in 15 minutes, so it's still a win situation. Choose whichever one you would want to do more, or do both and have a dual licensure.
