Only Saint names for babies?

Question

I am Catholic and raised in a very Catholic home. I'm very thankful for my up bringing and while I don't consider myself as serious of a Catholic as my family members I do consider myself still Catholic. You would think I would know the answer to this question lol...
 
Why do Catholics only want to name their kids after saints? I understand wanting them to have a role model, Parton or intercessorer, but I don't really get why it's a must. You can still have all those things without being named after one. Plus, how will we ever get new saints if we keep using the same name?! 😉😂 
 
I've heard my dad always tell my siblings when they talk about naming their kids he will say "better be a saint name!" Or "no cause that's not a saints name."

In Quebec everyone has two first names. One is heir Saint name, which they then hAve a small celebration on their saints day. The second is any name the parents chose. People usually go by their second first name And not their saints name.

I am Catholic . I am sure it is not obligatory more of a preference. I like bible names but I would probably pick a name I liked or felt a connection with .

I am Catholic and have never heard that you have to name your child after a saint.... I do however like biblical names- my sons are David and Michael.  Maybe it's more of a traditional thing for some families-not obligatory

This is not true for my family.  I have 37 first cousins who are all Catholic and only 5 of them are named after Saints. We do choose a patron saint at confirmation but we do not go by that name.

I grew up Catholic (I'm not now), and my mom didn't name me after a saint at all. My dads family has lots of Saint names in it though.

My mum grew up in a very strict catholic household, but neither her or her three sisters were named after saints. The only one they had was one of my aunts middle names - Theresa (after Saint Therese).

I think it's just how you grew up. Like my mind thought is that I just don't want my child to be judged,  negatively,  for work or school,  based on their name. Beyond that I want the name to fit my child and be,  what we consider,  a strong name. I have no issues with saints names (my Husband,  his brother and 3 cousins all have Biblical names) but I don't think it dooms your child or anything of the sorts
