Tums...wtf?!?!

Ok so this whole time I am told tums are safe to take for heartburn during pregnancy. I just came across online stating tums are safe but in the same sentence they are considered a category C drug during pregnancy. Wtf!? I would never have taken them. I would rather stick with category b . I am upset and mad that I was told these were safe by obgyn. Am I overreacting??

Honestly, I think you're overreacting. Listen to your doctor, not anything online. I've lived on tums for my pregnancy and my son is fine.

I took tums with both of my previous pregnancies and they are perfectly fine (19 & 16). As much as we want to safeguard and protect our pregnancies think about what we all did before the internet. Our grandparents didn't have these worries and our parents was able to have us. I'm also taking tums with this pregnancy, if it's not broke I don't believe in trying to fix it.

If you need an alternative heart burn relief,  try eating crystallized ginger.  It's great for settling your stomach.

The calcium in large doses can absorb the folic acid your baby needs. Just watch how much you take

It's probably category C if not taken in the recommended daily amount. So just make sure you don't take more than suggested! You're fine.

I would feel the same as you. I am even at the point where I limit Tylenol even tho it's super safe... I just wanna have as little medications as possible...especially when it's something that's not 100% necessary. I just lived with my heartburn even when it was bad cuz it wasn't something like an infection or migraine, just something that was sort of uncomfortable

Don't stress about it. As long as you're being mindful with them and not popping them in your mouth like they're candy, there's no worries about it. If there were, it would have been stated by your OB. They wouldn't want you to be using any medication, OTC or prescription that would risk causing harm to your little one. I've been taking them throughout my pregnancy and have had no issues so far.

Just a little....my OB specifically recommended taking them vs anything else. They are safe and baby will be okay 😊
