Mirena strings

So I got my mirena put in place a week ago and my bf and I were trying to have sex for the first time after it got put in and he said it didn't feel right so we stopped and he said it felt like something was poking him and the strings aren't supposed to bother him right? Well I guess wrong so now he doesn't wanna have sex with me and I don't know what to do so I'm ranting and crying like an idiot. And some advice from strangers would be nice.. Tomorrow's our 4 year anniversary and we probably won't even have sex now which obviously that's not what our relationship is about but I just want to feel loved.. So what should I do..? I don't want to get it removed, but I don't know how to help him get past the strings being there...
