Considering my options

I've been thinking about getting on birth control for awhile. Just to ease my anxiety about getting pregnant and to also help control my hormonal acne. If I do get on birth control I want to be on the patch. However I'm terrified of the side effects like nausea and vomiting. What are some common side effects for the patch? And how can I bring the topic up to my mom?
