Emmalyn's arrival.

Laurie

So I went to the doctor Thursday (6/23) for an ultrasound because they were concerned about the size of the baby. I was feeling pretty horrible so I asked to talk to a doctor and was see shortly after. She said Emma was about 5 1/2lbs, and that there was really no benefits to her staying in the womb and asked if I was OK with being induced. It would be best for both of us so I agreed and was told to come back at midnight.

I was admitted, and started oxytocin around 12:45-1am. It was pretty uneventful until around 7am when the contractions suddenly got painful and I asked for the epidural. I got no relief even with an extra dose. Around 10am I was in a lot of pain and asked if they could do something so they called and got another extra dose in the epidural, saying it would take about 15mins to work. The pain just kept getting  worse, and I told them I felt like I needed to push. They said they would break my water and it would relieve the pressure. They checked my cervix, and I was 6cm. The nurse turned around to do something and I couldn't resist the urge to push anymore so I did not thinking anything would really happen. A bubble came out, exploded shooting fluid all over the place, then her head came popped out and she all of a sudden shot out and landed on the bed between my knees. I screamed, nurses screamed, my two older boys who were still in the room screamed and tried to hide. I was in shock just looking her in disbelief that it really just happened like that. The nurses said they had never seen anything like it. She was healthy, weighed 6lbs and 3oz, and is absolutely beautiful. It was an experience I don't think any of us will forget, especially my traumatized 6 year old.
