I want to have my baby at home, but what about stitches?

Hey guys! So, I really want to have my baby at home. It's the idea I am most comfortable with, as opposed to a birthing center, and I don't have any fears about the health of the baby at all. But my concern is what if I need stitches? Is it reasonable to make an appointment with my Dr. Within a day or two for him to assess and address that? Would that be too long of a wait?  To have a midwife at home would be $2500, and that's not feasible for me. A birthing center would be more affordable, but that's not what I want.

Also, don't be too quick to put off a birthing center! Depending on your specific type of birthing center... they are wonderful! As long as they're not the ones attached to or in association with a hospital they are just like being at home! I highly recommend checking out birthing centers, the one in my town is holistic, all natural and looks and feels just like a home environment!

We're having an all natural water birth at home. Many natural homebirths don't require stitching at all. Your midwife is trained to help you push when you you need to and to stop when there is a chance of tearing. That, combined with the Bradley method of laboring and other relaxation and control techniques make for a much less frequent occurrence of tearing or medical intervention of any kind.

We have a friend that drove herself to the hospital after an unattended home birth for stitches.

Look at FREE STANDING BIRTH CENTERS- they're just like being at home with a beautiful home like environment and a regular NOT A HOSPITAL bed, with midwives only, you can labor and birth however you want, most offer water births, and 97% of insurance companies cover it. You can also leave within 2-6 hours after your baby is born. Seriously take it as an option.

Check out freestanding birth centers if you can't afford to have a home birth with a midwife! They are really quite nice and different from a hospital birth center. Everyone needs to make their own decisions, but the statistics for an unattended (no midwife) home birth are very high for complications and mortality.

I needed stitches after my first birth ( at home) and my midwife was a cnm so she had lydacain and the training to stitch me up. Make sure your midwife is a cnm and she will have been trained to do it and have lydacain

Is this your first baby? Nothing against home births, but at least have a midwife there! To me it’s very irresponsible to go into something like this without the right medical knowledge or experience. A midwife will stitch you up at home just like they would at the hospital or a birthing center.
