Joint bank accounts?

My boyfriend and I have been together four almost four years and have been living together for almost three and I've been thinking about just getting a joint bank account together to make it easier to pay bills and such. Any thoughts on this?

It's a good idea and very helpful...if you guys have the same philosophy on money. My husband and I had one when we were dating. We were traveling a lot and I had quit my job to do so (he was on 60 day leave from the army so we went everywhere) so he paid the bills. When we got married, we restructured things: we have a joint account for the bills, groceries, our daughter and other joint expenses, but we also have personal accounts for personal spending. We also have joint savings and joint investments. That has worked out very well for us.

I'd do a joint account for bills and rent and things, and each put the same amount into it each month but I'd still keep separate ones for every day.

I've been with my partner for 3 years. We've had a joint account/ full access to each other's money since about 8 months in. IT makes everything so much easier and there's no fighting over money Bc we both know what bills need to be paid. If we're broke were broke together. Neither of us spends more than 20$ without contacting each other.

I have one with my hubby. And honestly I love it. It was a little bumpy at first trying to work through our bills and communicating with each other when we were spending money. We were used to having our own accounts and different spending habits. But we have grown to have the same goals and talk about what we are going to do with each paycheck we get. It's so easy for me to pay for things. We share our money, it's our money not one or the others :)

We share our money. Were married tho. But even before then we never said "this is my money because it came from my check" if i needed something. I get in his wallett. He carries all our money unless im needing something for that day and it works for us.

You need to do what works FOR YOU GUYS. Not what worked for others ya know what i mean? Nobody's exactkythe same...like the commenter before me...i think its kinda weird to seperate money and get offended because your husband (person you want to marry) spent more than you did. Like money isnt gonna make u happier and when its all said and done and your laying there about to take your last breath.....money isnt going to be standing there holding your hand and supporting you emotionally. I need emotional support, as long as our bills are paid, and were not broke, im happy no matter who spends what. I dont even pay attention to that type of stuff. Thats what a parent would do, your a team, money you make is his and money he makes is yours. To me anywayd.

My husband and I have a joint account and have for a long time. I never asked he just did it one day before we got married and when my debt card came he activated it and put the app on my phone and handed me my card. I was so shocked because of how things happened with his ex. It has made things much easier for paying bills ect because my name is on everything and so is his. I handle all the bills anyway so it made it easier for us. While it works for us it won't work for everyone, you just have to decide if it's something that you think will work for your relationship.

Me and my husband have been together for 10 years and don't have joint checking accounts. We had a joint savings account but we closed it down. We both save money, but I like to have my own bank account.

The greatest advice I was told was to keep accounts separate. The way we do is we add all of our expenses then we put that amount in the joint account,  the rest is for us. But again, that works for us.  Give it a try, good luck!

I'd say it's worth giving it a trial run. Discuss it with him, set boundaries and goals and give it six months to see it works.
