Natural Birth? No meds? Let us hear your stories.

Question

Hello ladies!

I would love to hear from those who had a natural, vaginal birth, with no medicine, epidurals, or pain relief of any sort. I am currently considering my options and would love to hear from those who experienced this firsthand. How did it go? What was most painful? How much did you prepare? Is there anything you would do differently in retrospect?

My husband called his mom...while he was on the phone by my side, I asked the nurse if I could lay on my left side because I felt a ton of pressure. She said that was fine. Immediately, I started to yell that something was happening and my husband ran to go get my nurse that had left the room. They rushed back in and I explained that something was wrong and I was having spasms. Sure enough, my body had started to push all on its own. I seriously felt like I lost control of my body. With the other nurses still out getting my IV, they had the doctor come in really fast (as I'm trying to explain what had just happened) and the doctor said in the 10 min I had rolled to my left side, I went from a 4 to a 10 and she could feel the baby's head.  They put me in a wheelchair and flew me to the next room where I could deliver. My husband said he had never seen so many gloves fly around a hospital before. Still no IV, I asked about the epidural....."It's too late" they said. Shit. First contraction was horrible. Didn't know what I was doing....no meds....and just all around confused at how fast it is going.

The second contraction was about to hit and I'm just freaking out. My doctor comes up to me and tells me exactly what I needed to hear...."Shut up and push"...so I did. One HUGE push and she was out.

As far as the pain...I remember it was pretty bad...lots of pressure. It was almost so bad though, that you stop feeling it. As soon as my baby came out and I saw her, the pain just wasn't there any more. Partially thanks to the shot my doctor gave me to numb my jay jay and give me two stitches for tearing :) but it really does just stop hurting after you see them. It's hard to explain that part of it.

My daughter was born at 3:02am....an hour and half after my plug popped at home. I was very lucky to have such a great and easy labor.

I am currently 5w5d with #2 and I'm going to do it natural all over again as long as baby allows :)

Honestly the pain encouraged me to get it over with haha. My water broke at 4:30 a and she was born at 5:11 a . Her coming out literally felt like a relief.  The pain level wasn't like the Walking Dead zombie bite lol sooo I survived. My hospital has a magic hour where it's just skin to skin. After that hour I was able to get up and go to the bathroom and eat.  I tore a little but did not require stitches.

Is it crazy that getting a catheter scared me more than a natural birth? Lol

Went into preterm labor and the anesthesiologist was in a c section and couldnt get to me in time to give me the epidural and he got it put in but it never had a chance to kick in as my son flipped breech and i needed to be rushed to the or and on the way he flipped back head down and i delievered vaginally and natural labored 2 1/2 hours and pushed for 10 mins no pain meds this baby currently 13+2 will be delivered all natural absolutely no pain meds i know i can do it as ive already done it

First normal delivery with epidural. Horrible time, ended up with a second degree tear and then an episiotomy too, and loads of stitches.

Second normal delivery with no pain relief whatsoever! Even tho he was 10lb it was an easier delivery! And it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be!

All natural here...unexpectedly.

It was 1:30am and I heard a "pop" in my head that startled me awake. I went to the bathroom and it ended up being my mucous plug. I'm not sure if I imagined the popping noise or what, but I'm glad it woke me up. It was my first kid so I looked at my notes and it said after the mucous plug comes out you are in the early stages of labor and can be ok that for a long time.  I called the hospital and they said to go ahead and come in and they'd see how I was doing.  My husband had just gotten home at midnight from work, so I asked him if he wanted to come with or stay sleeping. I wasn't having any contractions, so I didn't feel it was urgent. He, of course, said he would go.

As soon as we got in the car, my contractions stared and were 3 min apart. I text my sisters and they told me to go get food because if I went into active labor they weren't going to let me eat for a long time. I decided to skip the drive through and just go check on my contractions.

We arrived at the hospital at 2:30am and they wheeled me to the closest ER room to check me out. I was dilated to a 4 and still having small contractions, so they said I had lots of time and they were going to go get my IV ready so we could walk around a little. I told the nurse that I wanted to make sure I got my epidural and that I didn't want it to happen like it does on TV and they tell me it's too late. They laughed a little and proceeded to go get my IV.
