They don't have to like each other, but at least be respectful. Luckily, my SO and my best friend  get along perfectly and he is best friends with her husband, so win win.

My best friend and I have been best friends since 8th grade. She knows me so well and we spend a lot of time together. I couldn't imagine being with someone she didn't like or vice versa. To me that's a deal breaker.

As much as I want to say it doesn't matter to me, it does. Both of those roles are immensely important to me, and I'm not sure I could handle them not getting along.
