placenta encapsulation anyone?

Question

Hi all, I plan on doing placenta encapsulation with my current pregnancy. Is there anyone that has done it and if so what are your experiences with it. Did it meet or exceed expectations or was it a waste of time and money. My doctor didn't seem to thrilled when I mentioned I planned on doing so. Would just be nice to know if anyone has an experience they wouldn't mind sharing with me. TIA

I was going to do this as well and I talked to my sister about it who is a very "crunchy" all natural everything lover. She knows a ton about this kind of thing as she was a doula and almost became a midwife before switching career paths. Anyways, she surprisingly said save your money! Lol she explained that after it goes through the whole process of being dried or baked or whatever happens that it loses a ton of it's amazing nutrients. Not that there isn't some benefit still but she said it would be the equivalent of eating certain good for you foods. So unless your having them come make smoothies out of it right after you give birth then it's really more of a waste. I hope this helps at all.

My Dr was the one who suggested it! She will do it for only $84. I haven't tried, but am excited to do it.

I did it with my first and I plan on doing it again! We mainly did it because I have some weird autoimmune disease that totally calmed down when I was pregnant...the doctor said that was normal, happy pregnancy hormones working and we wanted to capture that.  I also would take one or two when I felt postpartum depression symptoms coming on and it totally helped alleviate symptoms.  So that's my two cents...good luck with your decision!

Well that's encouraging. My doctor kind of down played it. Saying what the research does and does not show.. So I will see. I've heard mixed things about it. I mainly want to get it for breastfeeding. I breastfed my first for 6 months only stopped because I got sick.
