My perfect little guy due 7-8-16, but born 6-11-16...
Well here is my story of my beautiful little boy who was due today, but born back on June 11, 2016.
On Wednesday, June 8, I went for my doctor visit and everything seemed relatively normal... Until they checked my blood pressure which was 150/100, so my doctor sent me straight to the hospital to be monitored. After 5 hours in the hospital I talked with my doctor and she sent me home on STRICT bed rest. My two older children were sent to my parents house until after my son was born. Thursday was a horribly long day, as I am not used to doing nothing...
Friday I had a NST scheduled, so I drove myself to the doctor's appointment, thinking nothing of it. I get to my appointment and they check my blood pressure, which was 160/100... They then put me on the 30 minute monitoring, and decided to check my blood pressure again. After sitting for 30 minutes, my blood pressure was now 180/120. They went to go get a doctor, and I sat for about another 30 minutes and when the doctor got there, she checked my pressure one more time to find that it was 158/102. At that point being 35w6d they took me to Ultrasound to see how my son was developing and check the function of his lungs... At this point they said that if I found a ride I could go to my hospital of choice to deliver, but when the doctor returned after ultrasound, she said that I was not able to leave and needed to be admitted to that hospital and that I was going to be put on Magnesium Sulfate and then induced.
So I ended up staying at that doctor's office/hospital... My NST was at 10am, and by about 12-1230pm I was admitted to Labor and Delivery. They got me checked in and settled... Monitoring my blood pressure and started an IV. At 230pm they started the Magnesium Sulfate (MagSulfate)... The first bolster dose was miserable. It makes you feel as if you are burning up from the inside out... At 400pm they induced me by starting Pitocin. Now mind you, I had spontaneous labor at just over 36weeks with my other two children and have never had high blood pressure or complications with pregnancy... This was a new experience.
The nurse on duty said that it would probably be within about 5-7 hours for my labor to be in full swing... So we figured we would be having a baby on Friday, June 10... But my son had another idea... My contractions were getting relatively painful, so about 830pm I started my epidural...
Come to find out that after being on the Pitocin to the max dose for quite some time, they told us that the MagSulfate and Pitocin work against each other... Which is why around 1130pm they took me off the Pitocin for just over an hour to let my body rest...
Saturday morning, June 11, they started the Pitocin again about 1230-1am. They start at a low dose and work up to the max dose. By the time my doctor did morning rounds about 800am Saturday morning, she was surprised that I still hadn't had the baby or progressed further. I was on the max dose of Pitocin again, for over a few hours, and only dilated to 4cm... She decided to break my water. That sped things up quite a bit. By 10am it was about time to be having a baby.
My epidural felt as if it was not working. So when it was time to push, I was feeling my contractions and felt the all of three pushes. My son was born June 11, 2016 at 1052am. He was 5lbs 14oz and 19 inches long. Everything went well according to the doctor and the baby was perfectly healthy a month early!

About 4-5 hours later my blood pressure dropped to 80/50, and they called the doctor back urgently. I started hemorrhageing, which was the scariest thing I have ever experienced!
After the doctor dealt with the hemorrhage, we waited for about 30 minutes to an hour for my blood pressure to stabilize, because if it hadn't she was going to have to do a DNC.
I found out after the fact that before I had my son my hemoglobin was at an 11... That evening after the hemorrhage my hemoglobin was at an 8, and come Sunday, my hemoglobin was down to a 7. They started me on iron supplements.
My son will be 4 weeks old tomorrow, and it's crazy to think that he should have been born today.
