Can't find a job with a felony.. 😕

I'm 24 years old and got a felony drug charge on my record almost 5 years ago. I'm completely sober now, married, have a son and we're expecting a baby girl in September. I've been staying home with my son because I can't seem to find a job that's willing to pay more than $8/hour and that makes it hard to afford childcare. My husbands aunt owns a daycare and she would hire me, but the state says she can't hire anyone with a record.. I've read that 7 years after the conviction the charge 'disappears' on everything except law enforcement background checks. How true is this? I'm really wanting to get back on my feet and make some money but can't seem to catch a break 😕
