Any advice?

I'm supposed to be supplementing with formula now until my milk comes in due to jaundice in my four day old.  I didn't want to but I want to do what's best for her. Any advice anyone can offer considering I wanted to strictly breastfeed? TIA

I had to supplement in the hospital because they were worried about his weight loss. I would put him on the breast first, then give him formula if he still seemed hungry. I used a syringe to feed instead of a bottle, so he wouldn't get nipple confusion. I also pumped after every feeding to help bring in a good milk supply. When I started getting milk when I pumped, I would supplement with that first and then give him some formula if he still seemed hungry. We were able to stop the formula once we were home from the hospital. He is now 15 weeks and is ebf and everything is going well. It's important to put the baby on the breast as much as possible and to keep feeding on demand. Always try to breastfeed the baby first before giving them formula. Good luck!

My lo had jaundice and I never supplemented.  It takes time for them to work the bilirubin out of their system.  Keep breastfeeding and get him a few minutes in the sun.  Good luck.

I would get with a Lactation consultant and see what all you can do to get your milk flowing! Look up milk cookies, mothers milk tea, drink lots of water, some women suggest (orange?) gatoraid, funugreek is a supplement that is supposed to increase milk production. Of course talk with your doctor you don't want baby to get dehydrated, keep nursing the more baby nurses the more your body will think baby needs. Wishing you the best of luck 🍀
