How long do you breastfeed?

(Thankfully) I am not short on my milk supply. I often feel very full, sometimes even engorged (ouch!) throughout the day. I was told to feed baby until they are "done". However, if I do that she won't stop and will overflow her small belly and throw it up!! Like a lot!!!! Doesn't cry when she throws up but it is so much nonetheless.

I have pumped to see how much I produce over 10 minutes and it's 3.5-5 ounces each breast. So I know if she feeds for 10 minutes she is getting enough if not MORE than what she should from just one side. But I still have to stop her. Otherwise she would keep going! Then I get yelled at by relatives that I'm starving her and not feeding her long enough.

So I ask... How long am I supposed to feed her?!

That was exactly what was happening to my son. So what I did was I pumped some milk and saw how much came out of each breast while timing it. So when it hit about 3 oz, that's about the time I give the baby to eat and usually he is satifised. If not, I'll just give him a bit more. 😊 hope that helps.

My son did that a lot and my ped told mr its how they stretch the tummy so he spat it up a couple times and then doesn't do it as often anymore.
