Rhogam??

Does any of you ladies need to take the rhogam shot?? My blood type is A negative and my midwife said so need it to keep me and my baby safe. 😩 Is this shot really necessary??? Please Help?

Yes.  What it is because you're negative and there is a high chance your spouse is positive, the baby will be positive and your body could see it as a foreign object and start to attack it. The rhogam shot gives you the antibodies to keep the baby from being attacked. It normally doesn't effect your first baby because it's well protected and your body doesn't see it as a threat yet. But if you have ever had an abortion, any other bleeding in the uterus or this was your second baby, then your body would recognize it as foreign and attack. By getting the shot now you also help future pregnancies because it trains your body to accept them. So you get the shot to protect this and future babies as well.

Yep I got it. My mom had it will all of her pregnancies as well, and she had 17 pregnancies I just found out. It's completely necessary because without it, if the baby happens to be positive, and the blood mixed, your body will attempt to harm the baby. As well as any kids you get pregnant with in the future, your body will terminate the pregnancy itself if the baby is positive blood

Yeah I'm A- as well, and I had to get it. It didn't hurt, but it stung a little for me. And then I met my little baby girl and she was also Rh negative, so I didn't "need" it but it wasn't worth the risk!

It is necessary. I'm O neg type of blood and it is practiced in my country to receive a rhogam shot in 28w. Otherwise I received it every time I had a miscarriage, or even biochemical pregnancy. In this one I had tested once in early weeks and result didn't show any antibodies, so my doc said it is not needed to check it every month.

Yes you need to have the shot, it could be dangerous for your baby if you don't. Your baby could have a positive blood group depending on your partners type, if you have a knock or fall your body could automatically try and attack your baby as it is a foreign object to your body and it will try and fight it off to kill it. My blood group is AB negative and I had a shot at 28 weeks, when my baby was born they tested her blood and she was positive so I then had to have another shot after she was born. It also helps protect against future pregnancies. It won't harm you, it's there to protect your baby if something was to go wrong.

Im A- aswell, and was supposed to take the shot at 28 weeks, and after birth. I ended up moving to Europe, and expected to have to take it once getting here, but apparently they don't do it here till right after the baby is born. I think you're good as long as this is your first pregnancy, and you're not in any accidents where your blood can mix  with your baby's. But it's better to be safe than sorry!
