could it be breakthrough bleeding?

I've only gotten one depo shot & it was in feb I've never gotten my next one in May & like a week after I was suppose to get my next shot I had my period it lasted 6 days, but my doctor thinks the bleeding could be breakthrough bleeding from the shot? because my next period is almost 4 weeks late & ive gotten a negative test last week.
