Pill or Surgical Abortion?? Experiences??

I found out today that I am pregnant, I'm not at a place in my life where I can take care and sustain a baby. I'm thinking about abortion and I'm wondering if the pill or surgical option is better? What does recovery look like and how long is it? I should be about 4-5 week along. Thank you.

I had the pill abortion last week, I was 6 weeks and 3 days. I had to take two tablets orally (one to stop baby developing and another to prevent sickness), then I was asked to go to the loo and insert 4 tablets vaginally (I took these home with me, the nurse was unaware but I know plenty of women do this and I didn't want to be travelling when the pain started). I got home, had something to eat and then inserted the tablets. I didn't start cramping until about 3 hours later but once I started cramping it came on very quickly and it was painful. I was sick twice and bled through a couple of pads. I passed baby around 2 hours after cramping first started, my partner was there through everything. I went to pass out soon after that, I was still in the bathroom but luckily my partner was helping me at the time and caught me before getting me back to bed. It was mostly a blur and once it was over I initially felt relieved but have become more upset as time goes on (lots of pregnancy announcements at the moment as well so they upset me). The pill was the best option for me as I just wanted to be at home and go through it with just me and my partner. Do you have someone there to support you through this? And do you think you could cope with seeing the blood and clots? It all depends on your circumstances. I know this is such a tough decision, I hope I haven't scared you but I wanted to be completely honest as it's still very raw for me.

They will give you 4 pills to soak in your gums. An hour later..you will cramp and bleed. Its like a miscarriage. But they wont usually do a surgical abortion until after 9-10weeks.

Pills are good for early terminations, generally <9 weeks depending on your clinic & local laws. Surgery is more invasive but does clear out the tissue and lining very quickly, it is usually reserved for pregnancies a bit further along, my local clinic won't do one before 6 weeks, and between 6-9 weeks give you the option. With the pills you will probably bleed for longer and heavier than surgery, but this is also related to how far along you are. Where I live termination services are free, but cost may be a factor where you live, there is no sense making a decision without knowing if the cost would be prohibitive, I have heard it varies widely if you're in the US.

I got the surgery when I was 8 weeks, we spent the whole day at the clinic, but that was only because I had to talk to a lot of different nurses and get tested for various things. The actual procedure was only 5 minutes. It is extremely invasive and you'll feel everything unless you decide to pay extra to be unconscious during it all. But it's over fairly quick... Physically, I was able to go back to living my regular life the next day
