Cheap alternative to tiling my shower wall

Please can someone recommend a cheap alternative to tiling my bathroom wall? I have just had a shower installed and the previous owners only painted the walls. We cant use the shower until the shower wall is made waterproof. We've just splurged on alot of new homely items including a washing machine and sliding wardrobes this month and cant afford tiles. What else can be used??
