I'm not sure what to do...

Nickie • 34 yrs old, married 16 yrs, a *surprise* 1st baby!

Ever since I was a kid, I've loved the name Samantha. My mom wanted to name me that, but my father veto'd it. So I planned on calling my daughter Samantha. When, after 10 yrs w/o a single pregnancy, I finally came to agree with the doctors who were telling me all along. A while later I rescued a puppy while breaking up a puppy mill, and it was love at first sight. To show I'd moved on, I named her Samantha. Fast forward 6 years, and somehow I got pregnant. Not sure why it changed, but I'm pregnant!

And I still want to name my daughter Samantha, but the last thing I want is for her to think I named her after the dog! Or anyone else, really, because people can be cruel. What do you think about this situation? What would you do? Anyone have any good alternatives you wouldn't mind sharing?
