If you chose to forgive and stay in the relationship, than no. You cant tell someone youve forgiven them but then still hold things over their head.

On the other hand, if u stayed but u sidnt forgive and theres no trust, than your relationship isnt going to last anyway.

If you still feel the need to check his phone then you haven't forgiven him for the past, I'm big into open phone policies from the get go, nothing to worry about if there's nothing to hide and it keeps communication open, you should be able to check each other's phones, but you shouldn't feel the need that you have to

Doing that just shows your SO that you don't trust them. If you really overcame that obstacles in the past, you shouldn't feel like it's necessary to do that. It will just push your SO away.

I have trust issues from past relationships. I explained it to my husband (long before we got married) and we've always had an open phone policy. I look at his whenever I want and he looks at mine. And surprisingly enough, the longer we are together the less either of us look at the other's phone unless there is a call and the other isn't around to answer.
