Not texting a guy first?

I have a thing with this guy (we've been "together" for a year and a half so it's not like he's ghosting me or anything) and recently he hasn't been texting me as much and it's pretty annoying. I normally text first, so I'm just gonna stop initiating any conversation and wait until he says something. It's only been a day but I'm struggling 😂 how do you ladies handle situations like this? How does the guy normally react?
