3 year relationship

Sorry kinda long. So my boyfriend and I have been together almost 3 years and broke up a couple of days ago. The reason is because his great grandmother died and he got forced out of his new job he had for a couple of days, and on top of that his family is mad at him. At first he said he needed space then called sobbing saying it's what he needs right now and that it was the hardest decision he made, and that later we could possibly get back together once everything cools down. Any thoughts? We talked a little  after that but I haven't got in touch with him since then.
