How to transition from boob to formula?

Baby is almost a week old and I want to switch him to formula instead of continuing breastfeeding, but how? I tried giving him a similac formula bottle from the hospital and he wasn't really eating it, plus it made him gassy. Is there a better formula out there for newborns and how to make that transition??
