What Do You Consider To Be CIO

I'm asking because I am honestly curious of what other people consider to be the crying it out method.

When I lay my baby down she will usually cry for a few minutes before falling asleep. If she isn't calming down I go back and get her. I don't consider it to be cio.

My son is almost 3 weeks old and his pediatrician said that if he's been changed, ate, burped, rocked, doesn't have a fever, and is still wanting to cry, to lay him down and let him cry because babies have to learn to self soothe and even babies this young need to cry sometimes. So far we've only had to do it once though, and he cried for 3 minutes and went to sleep. He just loves to fight his sleep sometimes.

I have a serious question for people that think any amount of crying is CIO, I'm assuming you're against it. What if you are in the car on your way to an appointment that you can't be late for or they will cancel, charge you your copay, and make you come later? Your baby is in the back seat screaming. Do you pull over or do you keep driving?

There's a fussy whine, and that's one thing. But full blown crying/screaming for more then a minute or two is crying it out to me.
