Bad milk?

Question

How can you tell if breast milk has soured? My two week old has been a little extra fussy and I'm not sure if it could have anything to do with the milk being in the fridge for the 9th day. Is there a special way to differentiate between still good and too old?

This is good guideline to follow for breastmilk. However, if baby is fussing over milk left in the fridge for a few days, it's possible you have a high lipase issue. My doctor gave me the 5 rule. 5 hours in normal room temp, 5 days in the fridge and 5 months if frozen. It helped me.

Breast milk is onlygood refrigerated for up to 8 days. That being said, at 2 weeks babies usually go through a growth spurt, which definitely causes extra fussiness. Don't forget PURPLE crying (what lots of moms call colic) happens too. I doubt it was your breast milk causing an issue.
