Has anyone just told their doc they have been trying for a year

Just to get fertility testing going? I'm frustrated with having to wait as I've had unprotected sex for 4 years with my partner (we weren't actively trying but would have been overjoyed if pregnancy happened) so since it wasn't "just happening" we have gotten serious and I've been tracking for 6 months. I'm just extremely worried about possible endometriosis for me and my partners  sperm is clear and I've been reading that could be an issue. I'm also 34 so my age is worrying me. I don't want to keep putting it off, I want to know what I'm up against, time is precious and I just don't want it wasted. So would it be so wrong to just tell them I've been actively trying for a year?
