Do you believe you should ask your spouse or SO for "permission"?

So I was reading this blog, and this woman was talking about how she asks her husband if she can go out for a girls night. Or other things like that. And he does the same to her. All of the points she made were very valid, and sometimes I find myself and my SO doing the same thing. Like for instance me and one of my male friends were going to grab McDonald's because I was stuck in my dorm working on a test. And missed dinner. And my friend offered to take me to get food. I asked my so first. Not so much as permission, but out of respect for him. And he always does the same.
