Currently miscarrying

How long did it take for the bleeding to stop for you guys? I was told Saturday I was having a miscarriage and Sunday I started bleeding heavy. I went to the ob today for an ultrasound and he said I already passed the sac and most of the tissue so I only have some lining to pass still. Also he said I had to wait 2 periods before trying again. Did you guys wait this long? Thank you for your answers.. I have one child a 3 yr old boy and we have been ttc for one year and this is my first miscarraige.
