Pre-eclampsia! What can I do??
Hello, let me tell you a little bit about me. I am 40 years old ( just turned in August), 26 weeks and currently 253 lbs. With my last pregnancy I got pre-eclampsia at 38 weeks. My condition deteriorated so quickly that i was induced at 38 weeks, my platelets dropped in a few hours time, not allowing a epidural, magnesium was given and my blood pressure did not want to go back down for months after, creating severe migraines. At 24 weeks I again started to show signs I am getting pre-eclampsia again. High blood pressure & protein in my urine. I also should add I had several borderline to high blood pressures and this was my second visit were protein was found. My Dr talked to me at this point about induction and possible steroid shots to mature baby's lungs as well as her prediction of induction. I now go in every 2 weeks for a check as well as monitor my blood pressure daily. After this I began to research, on this site, on the Internet, and I asked Dr a ton of questions. This sole reason for this post is that just maybe I can get advice from someone who has walked this path and knows something that helped then, or some one like me can review this and see what I did and my out come to see if anything helped....so now to the research..my Dr started my on a low dose aspirin (81 mg) daily. research shows this can lower risk 24% (http://www.m.webmd.com/baby/news/20140908/give-aspirin-to-all-pregnant-women-at-risk-of-preeclampsia-us-experts) next another thing I discovered is midwifes routinely have women up their protein to 100+ grams (https://www.midwiferytoday.com/articles/nutrition.asp) and start a vitamin D suplement (http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/271768.php) In which I have also done (with my dr approval). I am limiting sugar and drinking mostly water. Definitely not easy at 1st. thus far, 2 weeks have passed. I went to my normal Dr visit and no protein in urine. Also my blood pressure is under control now as well. It was 154/88 now it has running 125/82..I will also update this post as my Dr visits occur, to determine if these changes actually made a difference. Please if anything has made a difference for you, I want to know!
