Toxoplasmosis positive

Gemma

I am 8 weeks I had a scan today because we previously miscarried at 8 weeks. The scan was good the baby is growing and heart beat strong.

However I have had the news that I have toxoplasmosis. We are living abroad with the military and the consultant we see is cypriot and was very abrupt and basically made us feel like termination was the only viable option and that we should act now rather than wait until the pregnancy progresses to test.

We weren't given any statistics but a nurse friend of mine put me in touch with a support website which says that because I contracted it either before or very early in the pregnancy it's only a 1-15% chance that baby will become infected.

I feel so confused the last thing we want to do is terminate but I don't know if that's a selfish approach. I know that I will fall apart if 5 or 6 months down the line we have tests and find out it is infected as I know they recommend late termination if that's the case. It's just that's an 85-99% chance my baby will be ok.

Has anyone been through anything similar?

I don't have many friends here but the ones I do have basically implied they would probably terminate and 'at least you know you can get pregnant again' whereas my hubby and my mum both look at the positive possibility and think we should wait.

I just have no clue
