When should I do my dating ultrasound?

I want at least the fetal pole to be there, heart beat and able to see the "little gummy bear" that will be my baby. I don't want to get my dating ultrasound done so early that I only see a sac.. That would just worry me. So about how many weeks should I be to do my dating ultrasound? I've had a miscarriage and not seeing a heart beat would just make me a nervous wreck.

I am asking because my DR does the scan my very first appointment & I am only 2-3 weeks right now.

I was always a bleeder when pregnant so my dr would never do an ultrasound until my hcg hit 1000 which was around 5ish weeks.  There was normally a heartbeat but the baby was just a dot.

I went for my dating scan at 7+3 and was pleased! Saw my little gummy bear baby and their heart beat galloping away. :) It was nice to see more than a gestational sac and fetal pole.
