induce?

I have gestational diabetes they just started me on insulin today I'm 36 weeks tomorrow . I have a nonstress test and dr visit every Tuesday and an ultrasound every Friday for the past 2 weeks and continues till birth ...He said he plans to induce on sept 30 at 39 weeks. Last week baby measured 6.12 pounds . If I ask to be induced at 38 weeks would they or just depends on doc ??
