Maybe I just feel this way but hear out.
A family member says she loves to entertain. Which is fine. But every time she asks us over for dinner or lunch... She asks us to pay!! Whether it be $10 or $20 etc.
We will take over a bottle of wine or a dish ... But she still asks for money. Her justification is that money is tight and they work pay check to pay check ... But if that's the case, stop entertaining so much.
I just feel like if you're find to entertain and invite people over, you should not be making them pay.
