Can you love more than one person?

I've asked multiple friends of mine and received various reasoning but ends in the same response. 
I know you can't love two people the SAME way but can you love more than one person at a time. Wether it be a connection you have etc ?

You can definitely love more than one person at a time, it just a different type of love. I love my best friend and my SO equally but it's not the same thing. I don't believe you can truly be IN LOVE with more than one person. Call me old school but that's just my opinion.

You can love as many people as you allow yourself to. Your brain doesn't switch off making connections unless you tell it to, like when in a monogamous relationship. Loyalty is the only thing that stops falling for extra people. I'm on about romantic love, not platonic love with friends and family.
