uninvited guests?

Since you are all having your showers now or soon I thought I would ask.... have you had very many uninvited guests show up?

When I was pregnant with my first son? My mother in law took her invite and copied it off to give to a bunch of random people... who then showed up.... ??? Did NOT plan food for that.

My mil also invited me to her step daughters babyshower (I wasn't officially invited)... so in this instance I would have been the gate crasher!

And just today my mil invited me to DHs distant cousins baby shower (like on my due date) when I wasn't invited. DH thought I was joking, he was shocked his mom would do that!

Seriously..... I think this is really tacky, but my friend told me that the same thing happened with her shower.

So tell me: is encouraging people to gate crash really the social norm???? Or do my friend and I just know some socially inept people?

Wth. So not normal. If you issued invitations, it's an invitation only event.

I didn't have anybody that wasn't invited to my baby shower show up, I think you should talk to your MIL and tell her that you don't appreciate her inviting people to stuff that aren't invited or inviting you to things you weren't invited to by the people themselves. I would be extremely upset if my MIL did that

When i sent my online invitations i specifically requested that people refrain from bringing anyone else. Id already invited too many people and since my sister is throwing it I dont want anymore than how many i sent invitations to. Hopefully people listen.

Copying the invitations and giving them out is not respectful. If she were to have asked you permission,  that's one thing,  but to blatantly invite people without your consent/knowledge,  I'd be upset! They better have brought gifts!

No, it's not the norm. Is her Ethnicity different than your perhaps. It might be normal to her depending on how she grew up. A lot of people have big parties and invite everyone. It's cultural. Plus, the "lower" class and older generation is way less snoody and much more kind.

Not propper edequitte (spelling lol) for any event/party you send invites you have a list case closed. Beyond rude to just show up when not formally invited by the person throwing/having the event.

My step mother n law did this but it was not at my baby shower. It was my wedding!! I would of been a lot happier if it would of been my shower instead of my wedding though.

I would never do it but I know when I was younger my family would throw parties and my aunt or mother would invite a church member to come and suddenly it was a church party :/ 
Tell one person and the mob comes. She probably doesn't see anything wrong with it but you need to tell her or put on her invitation "no extra guest" . Tell her you have everything numbered and she can run  it past you to see if there is enough room on your list.
