Sex talk?

This might have been posted before but I'm not sure. I wanted to know when is it a good time to have that "sex talk" with your kids? I have a daughter and I definitely want to have that talk with her. My mom never had the talk with me but if she did I truly think it would have avoided a lot of sexual abuse that went on in my childhood years. It's very important to me that I have that talk with my daughter becuase I want to also explain to her what to do if someone tries to touch her inappropriately. How should I bring it up? I don't want to confuse or scare her so any advice is much needed. Thanks!

My daughter is only 5, but we've already explained to her proper body part terms (penis, vagina) and have told her that nobody is to touch her in certain areas. She definitely understands but for now that's about as far as we feel we need to take any kind of conversations like that until she's older. My boyfriend (her father) and I really want to establish open communication early on so that she never feels ashamed coming to either of us about her body, it's very important to us.

Whenever you feel that she is old enough and mature enough. Basically when they start thinking about sex. So around puberty. My mom didnt talk to me about it until I had sex. (I was 14 btw) I wish she would of talked to me sooner. I didn't want to go to her first cuz it felt awkward. That's how most kids are going to feel

I don't think a sit down talk at a certain age makes any difference. I think being open and honest about bodies, sex, reproduction, etc. in an age appropriate manner starting as a toddler is the key. Letting your child know from essentially birth that they can trust you and come to you to talk about anything and always being honest with them (again, in an age appropriate way) is more important than a formal "sex talk" in my opinion.

I think a sex talk should happen around 4th or 5th grade but talkIng about there private parts should start very young. I would have those talks at 3 or 4 that no one should be touching or seeing those areas.

There are programs for young kids called "circles". It teaches them about their personal circle, areas that nobody can touch, the next circle discussed who can give u a hug or kiss, etc. it is very basic for young kids. A more in dept discussion should take place a little older when u can teach her about her first period, what it means, how it relates to sex etc. in my area all middle schools have a health curriculum that also has a sex Ed piece in it so she will get that too. The elementaries have a two day curriculum to discuss sex Ed.

I think the "sex talk" should start early and continue through high school. 
Young children should know the proper names for body parts. Consent is another good topic to cover. They should be taught that no one should be touching them, looking at them naked, etc. without their consent. From there you begin having conversations on what to epic during puberty. This age range varies, especially for females, so elementary school is a good time to broach that subject. From there you discuss sex and reproduction, stds, go further into consent, birth control, and so on.
It's awkward at first but it doesn't have to be miserable. I don't know a single person who regrets having their parents discuss this subject in this manner.

My moms never had the sex talk with me. She sent me to a church program. She swears we had the puberty and sex talk but trust me. We didn't. Kids today have access to information so easily that I think that conversation needs to happen sooner rather than later.

We actually had a convo with my friends son,  multiple adults  free range of asking....... at 12 years old he was far way more advanced ( and the girls in his class even  more so) then i was at his age or any of the other  adults.  I would assume 10 is a good age.
