Can an abdominal ultrasound be done at 8 weeks?

Question

I've been through 2 losses and I just don't feel comfortable getting an internal ultrasound. I'm not blaming the ultrasound for the losses but I would just rather get an abdominal ultrasound. I'll be 8 weeks and 5 days, but I am on the heavier side. If you've had an ultrasound done abdominally and are a little heavier, please show me your ultrasound pictures. Thanks!

The way they can do the ultrasound depends on your uterus more then how you want it. If your uterus is tipped or retro then an abdominal ultrasound at 8 weeks won't show you anything because your uterus is more towards your back. I have been pregnant twice and I have a tipped uterus. I let the Dr know about it, he tried to do an abdominal one, less invasive but it was way too blurry due to my tipped uterus, he had to do it transvaginal. If you don't want a vaginal ultrasound and u have a tipped uterus then u will just have to wait a few more weeks to see anything. Your choice but they are safe.

I had mine done at 8.3. They started on an abdominal one, but switched it transvaginal because the baby was too small and I obviously have padding.

I had abdominal scans done at 6 weeks both times, saw bub and heart beat perfectly fine!

I'm overweight and had an abdominal ultrasound at 8 weeks, no problem. A full bladder definitely helps.
