Do Lice Prefer a Certain Hair Type?

I remember in elementary school, we would have "lice checks" at least twice or 3 times a Yr. It was rare, but I noticed that most of the kids who did get lice had straight hair. Maybe it was a fluke? But any who, growing up, my mom would also check my brother's and my hair. She told me that lice find very thick, curly, or wavy hair difficult to navigate thru... when you have straight hair, it's easier to get thru because you wont have so much tangles or coils of curls. It made since. OBVIOUSLY, just because you had curly or wavy hair, didn't mean you couldn't get lice. But what do you guys think?

The type of hair doesn't matter to lice.  My daughter has long thin hair it's thick in spots, she had gotten it so bad from school that I had to grt a prescription to treat it.  My son had short hair maybe 1 to 1 1/2 inches long and ended up getting it from a family reunion. A week b4 my daughter got hers.  And when I was in school it would get it 2 or 3 times a hair.  But I had the really thick long hair,  where it took almost 1 hr to brush out after washing it.

Not a lot of African American/Hispanic people get lice because we use so many oils & different products in our hair & wash it less then Caucasian people.  I don't think texture matters.

Yes. At my school white people with straight hair would get it more. Sometimes a black person would get infected with lice but not often, because black people have to keep more moisture in our hair to keep it from getting dry and brittle. Where as the most oil on a white persons hair would be oil sheen. But I suppose wavy and curly hair types could get it if their hair was dry or not washed often enough.

I was always told that lice prefer Caucasian hair types because they are known to have very "clean" hair because they wash it every night  where as African American hair is considered "dirty" because we use oils, grease, jells, jam etc. Just what I was taught

I had thick kinky curly hair, always pulled back with tons of product to keep it from going all over the place. Never got checked for lice. Only did once when I left my hair down, but still had too much product in it so they only peeked at my roots and sent me on my way quicker.

I'm African American and I wouldn't get checked for lice in school. My hair was always braided and full of hair products. Lice would suffocate cause of the hair products that are used. I was happy because I wouldn't have to worry about it.
