I'm 15, I've never had sex, nor do I plan on it for a long while. But this topic came up when my older sister confessed to my mom that she is sexually actively and has been for a while. My mom lost her cool and flipped out on my sister, telling her how "she's a disappointment" and "How could she do this, follow in her footsteps?!" I felt that my mom is very wrong for doing this, but I do understand that she only wants the best for us, but she can't get mad at us (my sister specifically) for wanting to experience, much like she did back in high school too. My mom was pregnant at 16 and had my sister at 17. Got pregnant again at 18 and had me at 19. My older sister is 18 tomorrow 🤔 what are your opinions?

She just wants better for her children. When you're a mother you will understand hun. I understand where you're coming from, I am a teen mother and do not want my children being teen parents. Granted, my son was planned when I was 16....it was still a very hard life adjustment and I do not want my children becoming teen parents. Being sexually active, no matter how careful you think you're being, there's always a chance of becoming pregnant.

When a mother realizes she can't protect her children from her own mistakes, she'll have angry and fearful outbursts. She feels helpless and she's afraid for how an early sex life may impact her daughters ability to have a better life than she did.

She really wants better for you guys than to be a teenage mom. Even if you're married or wind up married being a young mom is hard, especially socially.

There are so many thoughts she could be thinking. She's a bad parent and your sister is going to get hurt are two.

I know a girl that was put on birth control when she started her period because her mom had her young. She got the shot and every time she got it her and her mom would cry.

I'm 26 and not a mom yet but I wish had waited until much later to have sex.

I can see where your mom is coming from. I have come from a culture that you hear it often: don't make the same mistake I made!  It's not hypocritical of your mom saying that to your sister if she believes what she did wasn't her (your mom)best choice. I agree with you regarding her wanting the best for you guys😀

Yes, she has a right too. She has made those mistakes and it's obvious she doesn't want her kids to make the same mistakes (not saying a baby is a mistake, but as a teen it's hard )

A mom always wants the best for her children, so I would understand if she was a little upset. However her reaction seems a little hypocritical to me. I mean, your sister isn't pregnant is she? Just sexually active. As long as she's safe I don't really see the problem..

She is a parent concerned about the future of her children, so it's understandable that there's ire surrounding something that could have potentially permanent effects on her child. This could be about anything, sex, drugs, low grades, jobs, sports, etc.  Fear and/or disappointment is often masked by anger or mistaken for it.

A good parent is always concerned about their childrens future and the potential hazards/damage they face, regardless of if they have experience in the same department or not.

I can see where your mom is coming from but I don't think it's reasonable to assume teens are going to wait to be sexually active til marriage or at a time parents think is appropriate
