Trying to convince my husband

I just moved into a new place less than a month ago, my best friend lives across the street, and behind her is a park, she's lived in the area about 3 weeks now and is pregnant, and has had her truck broken into 3 times already, mine hasn't been touched, the other night she had kids in her yard telling her that a clown chased her little sister, the same night around 3AM I heard knocking on my door(I didn't answer because I didn't wanna die) I told my husband what happened and he gave me a knife to keep in my night stand, and a wooden paddle thing. I don't want an intruder coming into my home and me having to get close enough to hit/stab them  I also don't wanna take anybody's life, earlier today I was talking to my husband about getting a handheld BB gun, with metal BB's, enough to hurt someone, but not kill them. My husband thinks I'm joking, but I'm seriously scared.
