Question for native Americans (canadian)

My daughter approached me about getting her status as native American. I'm not sure if she can because no one on her dad's side of the family ever got it. I'm pretty sure her grandma is half native and part of the Shuswap area is all i know. Does anyone have any information. Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place but it seemed the best place compared to sexplanations or period talk lol.
